The Story of Ike begins in the spring of 1857 when a man arrives in the town of Broken River, Colorado. His only belongings were an old mule named Rosco, the horse he rode in on and the packs on Rosco's back. No one really knew his name. He said to call him simply, Ike! Word got around the small community that Ike had purchased some land about six miles out of town and was planning to settle on it. Over the next several weeks Ike built a sod house and a makeshift barn and shed on the property. A small creek ran through his land so he had an unendding supply of fresh water. Ike was a crack shot and fed himself very well from the game that he shot almost daily. Ike was around 34 years old when he arrived in town.
